Urgh! A Music War Reissued, Butchered on DVD

digitizing vinyl

My VHS copy of Urgh! A Music War, the essential 1981 live concert film featuring XTC, Dead Kennedys, Gang Of Four, Devo, Magazine, The Cramps and Chicago’s own Skafish is going to have to tide me over even in the face of Warner Brothers new DVD reissue of the film.  Why?  Because the WB wabbit’s gloved hand is giving the film the finger:  not a dime has been spent on video or audio remastering, a crappy optical print has been burned to the DVD master and the chimpanzee who ran the DVD authoring tool probably left a default chaptering option checked  – the film is senselessly subdivided into ten chapters that cut right into musical performances and have no relation to the film whatsoever.  All for only $19.95?  Yeah, sign me up, just as soon as you knee me in the balls a few times.

My Facebook pal Jim Skafish was interviewed in the Reader about the debacle and to his credit, did not call for the head of Bugs Bunny.

To my buddy! Thanks for you insights and thoughtfulness. It has been a journey, hasn’t it? Jim Skafish
